varicose veins: what are they and how do i get rid of them?

Varicose veins are abnormal veins that can occur in the legs. They are large bulging, rope-like veins located under the surface of the skin. One-way valves in the veins normally keep blood flowing up toward the heart. If the valves fail to flow upwards, the blood will flow backwards and pool into the veins creating swelling.

Other symptoms include itchiness, pain in the leg, cramping, aching, skin discoloration, and ulcers. Varicose veins can also lead to skin disorders such as Dermatitis, which is a common skin condition caused by varicose veins.

Some symptoms can be managed with conservative therapy, like compression stockings that can be bought through our office. If left untreated, many symptoms can lead to more serious complications such as permanent skin damage and ulcers.

Memphis Vein Center provides a range of treatments including Venacure EVLT (Endo Venous Laser Treatment), Microphlebectomy, and Sclerotherapy, all done in our office. Treatments can range from a single treatment to a series of treatments using multiple therapies.
